Thought for the Week

The Enormity of Sin

Satan couldn’t mess up God’s Creation.  His power is limited, he couldn’t force Adam or Eve to do anything, he had to deceive Eve ,who then induced Adam to disobey God too.

Sin changed everything.   The relationship that God had with His creation was ruined!

The ground was cursed, the animal kingdom was changed and mankind’s fellowship with God was wrecked.

The Source of Sin

Romans 5 : 12.

"When Adam sinned, sin entered the world. Adam’s sin brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned."

So great was the devastation caused by sin that God had to institute a system of sacrifice to enable Him to have any relationship with mankind at all.

Blood sacrifice was the only way to counteract the separation that sin had caused.  The sacrifice of animals was instituted until the time was ready for God Himself to enter into the conflict against sin.

The Remedy For Sin

Hebrews 10 : 1 - 7

The old system under the law of Moses was only a shadow, a dim preview of the good things to come, not the good things themselves. The sacrifices under that system were repeated again and again, year after year, but they were never able to provide perfect cleansing for those who came to worship.

If they could have provided perfect cleansing, the sacrifices would have stopped, for the worshipers would have been purified once for all time, and their feelings of guilt would have disappeared. But instead, those sacrifices actually reminded them of their sins year after year.

For it is not possible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.

That is why, when Christ came into the world, he said to God,
“You did not want animal sacrifices or sin offerings.
But you have given me a body to offer. You were not pleased with burnt offerings
or other offerings for sin.
Then I said, ‘Look, I have come to do your will, O God—
as is written about me in the Scriptures.’”

It took God almost 4,000 years to prepare the world for the complete remedy for sin.

The blood of millions of animals had been spilled and still, sin ran rampant over the Earth.

Man had endeavoured to find ways to conquer the evil that filled the world, but to no avail.

It is still the same today.  Mankind tries to control the behaviour of  itself with rules and regulations, by education, by medication, by “vain philosophies”.  But sin continues on it’s destructive way.

Only The Blood Of Jesus

"But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin."

The ultimate remedy for sin, was when, as Abraham explained to Isaac, God will provide Himself a lamb for a sacrifice.

Jesus took upon Himself the form of sinful flesh.  He humbled Himself and became obedient unto death.

The only way for sin to be defeated was for the sinfulness of everybody of every generation to be heaped upon the battered, bruised and bleeding body of The Lord Jesus Christ - God the Son.  When He cried “It is finished! “ At last the battle was over and Satan’s strategy was defeated.  Sin could at last be forgiven and it’s power over men and women could be broken.

Our Responsibility

Now the remedy is in our hands.  We still have no power in ourselves to defeat sin in our lives, but we each have access to the Blood of Jesus Christ, if we will recognise our sinfulness, confess it and surrender to Jesus.

However we must recognise sin as sin!!.

Sin is not merely a human weakness or failing, sin is an offense to Almighty God and as such we must acknowledge that we are deserving of the wrath of God.

Sin is so powerful in our lives that only the Blood of Jesus Christ can break it’s power.

No will power of man, no determination to be better, no rehabilitation programme, it’s the Blood.

We must recognise sin as it is.

Man has classified sins as either really wicked or just little misdameanours.  The Bible has no such classification.

Sin is sin and sin seperates.

Murder, child abuse, violence, immorality and perversity can only be cleansed by the blood, but then so can worry, gossip, pride.and all those little things that we thing are only minor slip ups.

We must call sin what it is, and apply the only remedy there is.
