Thought for the Week

 

Psalm 23

This is probably the most well known of all 150 of King David's psalms. In it we discover God's care for those who put their trust in Him.

v1).The Lord is my shepherd - that’s relationship
Jesus said “I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me,
I shall not want - that’s supply
“And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” Phil: 4 : 19

v2). He makes me lie down in green pastures - that’s rest
“So then, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God,” Hebrews 4 :9

He leads me beside quiet waters - that’s refreshment
“Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out, that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, and that he may send the Christ appointed for you, Jesus,” Acts 3 : 20

v3). He restores my soul - that’s healing
“But he was pierced for our transgressions;
he was crushed for our iniquities;
upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace,
and with his wounds we are healed.” Isaiah 53 :5

He guides me in the paths of righteousness - that’s guidance
“that this is God, our God forever and ever.
He will guide us forever”. Ps 48 :14

For His Names sake - that’s purpose
“For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.” 1 John 3 : 8

v4). Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death - that’s protection
“I do not ask that you take them out of the world, but that you keep them from the evil one. John 17 : 15

I will fear no evil. - that's confidence

2 Tim 1:7. For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of love, power and a sound mind

For You are with me - that’s faithfulness
“if we are faithless, he remains faithful— for he cannot deny himself.” 2 Tim. 2 :13

Your rod and the staff they comfort me - that’s discipline
“So therefore, any one of you who does not renounce all that he has cannot be my disciple.” Luke 14 : 33

v5). You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies - that’s hope
“In hope he believed against hope, that he should become the father of many nations, as he had been told, “So shall your offspring be.”Rom 4 : 18

You anoint my head with oil - that’s consecration
“Then Moses took the anointing oil and anointed the tabernacle and all that was in it, and consecrated them.” Lev  8 : 10

My cup overflows - that’s abundance
““The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” John 10 : 10

v6). Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life - that’s blessing.
“The LORD bless you and keep you;
The LORD make His face shine upon you,
And be gracious to you;
The LORD lift up His countenance upon you,
And give you peace.” Num 6 : 24 - 26

And I will  dwell in the house of the Lord  -  that’s security
““In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. John 14 : 2

For ever - that's eternity.

That where I am you may be also.

The Name Of Jesus
